Philosophy
Investment is judgment, applied patiently.
Markets reward patience and punish certainty. We believe the durable source of investment return is the slow compounding of high-quality businesses owned at sensible prices — not the prediction of next quarter's macro headlines.
Our average holding period exceeds nine years. Our client relationships average twenty-three. We have rarely been the loudest voice in the room, and we have no intention of becoming so now.

1923
Edward Dobrey founds Dobrey & Co. above a grain broker on LaSalle Street.
1936
Henry Dobrey joins as junior partner; firm renamed Dobrey Investments.
1954
Opens dedicated equity research desk — among the first west of the Hudson.
1971
Survives the Nifty Fifty correction with a 4% loss vs. -38% S&P.
1987
Dobrey Quality Equity composite established. Continues to this day.
2008
Drawdown of -1.8% during the financial crisis. No client losses.
2014
Becomes 100% employee-owned through partner-equity buyout.
2023
Centennial year. $14.2B in AUM across 1,200+ relationships.
